As today is my birthday I saw it fitting to introduce you to my daily hot chocolate ritual. Every day at 3pm I make myself a small cup of hot chocolate. The hot chocolate I use? Lately it has been Green and Blacks. Green and Black’s used to be a little company but it has grown tremendously over the years and was bought by Cadbury and then Kraft. I started using Green and Blacks chocolate 3 years ago because of the commitment that the company has to sustainability and sourcing. The reason I continue to drink Green and Blacks is because it hits the spot. It’s made from their organic dark chocolate powder that isn’t too sweet, but still sweet enough that it gives me the little kick I need to get through the rest of my day. I could, and do, drink this stuff pretty much every day.

I buy mine in the UK but thanks to being bought by a big international company you can get smaller (albeit more expensive) versions in many other places around the world. I have a whole cupboard’s worth …. just in case … wouldn’t want to run out now ….

Even more important perhaps than my stash of Green and Blacks is the mug that I drink it in. I introduce you to my cow mug. I found my cow mug in a very cute little tea shop called Tealeaves in Sassafras in the hills around Melbourne Australia. The store, other than selling every kind of tea you can imagine, also sells an incredible variety of tea cups and mugs. They have mugs shaped like houses, others like parrots, big ones, small ones. One day my cow mug was there, just staring up at me and it was love at first sight. I had all my hot chocolates in cow mug for years and years until one day, out of the blue, cow mug got chipped. I have been looking far and wide for another cow mug so if any of you have seen a similar mug somewhere please do let me know!

The hot chocolate is complete with a generous sprinkle of cinnamon and sometimes a few miniature marshmallows.

Verdict: I look forward to my daily hot chocolate. It isn’t a rich, creamy hot chocolate, just a good simple one that is easily enjoyed. Green and Black’s
