Albany is very far away. It is on the most southern end of one of the most remote regions of the world, Western Australia. It takes several hours to get there from Perth, primarily through fields of wheat, rye and triticale, among other crops. It is these grains, specifically those grown on Goodie’s Farm in Kendenup, that are transformed here at Bred co Sourdough Bakery into sourdough and a wide range of other products. Everything is made fresh daily, and you can watch the process, from grain to loaf, happen right there in the shop.
They share the source of everything that they sell and really focus on supporting businesses from the Great Southern region of Western Australia, a region that, despite its isolation, is full of riches and delicious foods. The coffee is from Denmark roasters Stash for example. The hot chocolate is perhaps the only thing that remained sourceless when we asked, which, as always, is especially a shame when served in businesses that put a high importance on sourcing quality products across the rest of their business. They serve all their drinks in gorgeous mugs from @themudplace, each one unique. Oh and did I say they have pies, sandwiches, freshly made juices, even homemade pasta sauces and kimchee…and ketchup. Already planning our trip back.
