In 2010, Houssamet and his wife Meghedi created the Kann Design house designing minimalist furniture. The furniture is made in the Lebanese village where Houssam grew up. The workshop grew over the years and the couple opened up this coffee shop a few steps away from the Kann showroom. It is a place to enjoy a very good specialty coffee, with origins changing every month.

Now if only they did the same with chocolate! The hot chocolate was beautiful, but mysterious. No one knew much about where it came from, but regardless we enjoyed every sip. It was just the right balance, full of rich chocolatey flavor but not overly sweet. Whether you choose to sit inside or outside, the atmosphere is fantastic.

Residence Kann is a bit out of the way, but definitely worth the detour, especially if you combine it with a discovery walk along the Canal Saint Martin. Start at Gare de L”Est and walk over to the canal. Detour into any side streets that look interesting and be sure to cross over some of the bridge to watch the boats go through the locks on the canal. After enjoying your hot chocolate, save a little space for anything from Boulangerie Liberté at 39 Rue des Vinaigriers. From here, keep walking south towards the 4th and 11 arrondissement, zig zagging your way along. Many of these streets have fantastic little shops such as Merci on Bd du Temple or Antoine et Lili on Quai de Valmy.
