Buddy Buddy is off the beaten track, a locals joint located in the 11th right next to Canal Saint Martin. Founded back in 2020, the café is all about nut butters, which they make themselves in Brussels using almonds, hazelnuts and peanuts, and add to everything they serve in the café, from signature drinks to pastries. The inspiration for this café, started by Matt and Julien, was the desire to create nut butters without all of the added sugars, preservatives and artificial ingredients found in supermarkets.

The café is inviting and honestly feels almost like a trendy night club. There is a giant neon light shaped like a nut on the mirrored ceiling, a (coffee) bar in the middle and simple seating along the edges. The music is chill and upbeat. My hazelnut hot chocolate is a perfect blend of the best of both ingredients and light on the sugar, which is very much appreciated. It is served in a beautiful ceramic cup and I enjoyed every sip while eavesdropping on the conversations of the beautifully trendy people sitting all around me (the reasons I didn’t take more pictures, they might have thought I was a paparazzi). Obviously, every part of this little café has been well thought through, even the size of the cup. The staff have much to say about the nut butters; how they were made, where the nuts are from, but when asked about the chocolate…unknown.
