This charming little chocolate shop is worth a stop for two main reasons. First, they sell, drum roll, ourson guimauve; little, incredibly addictive marshmallow filled chocolates shaped like teddy bears that are very popular in France. These ones are available with different flavored marshmallows (vanilla, passionfruit and raspberry) and covered in either dark or milk chocolate.
Second, they make the most interesting hot chocolate I had in Montreal. It’s called Le Boréal and is a dark chocolate (66%) mixed with a range of local spices including sweetgale, juniper berries and a type of espelette pepper. It was like a love letter to Montreal and I fell for it at first sip.
Chocolatiers Emmanuel and Jenny have been concoting chocolate treats for some 32 years using a mix of Valrhona and Weiss chocolates and featuring flavors of Quebec across all of their products.
M.& MME Chocolate is just around the corner from Jean Talon Market, a fantastic market selling a wide range of products from the province. While in the area, also visit État de Choc, an incredible space selling craft chocolate bars from bean to bar makers around Canada and the world.
