L’Anse French cafe & Croissanterie is an authentic French Cafe/Restaurant in Port Lincoln. Having lived in France for many years, it does really feel like you are walking into a French cafe. The seats aren’t all lined up facing out (to people watch) as in French cafes, and the avos on toast for breakfast isn’t particularly French, but we are in Australia after all. Rather than baskets filled with various pastries and breads as you would in France, a selection of their beautiful and unique pastries are lined up on a shelf behind glass.
When we visited almost every table had at least one mimosa on it so that is obviously the drink of choice. We opted for the hot chocolate instead, which is made from the same couverture chocolate they use in their cakes and pastries. It is a sweeter hot chocolate than you would usually get sitting on a cafe in Paris, but was still a nice treat. Choose the chairs next to the glass window for a look into the kitchen to watch them making their delicious pastries and cakes from scratch.
L’Anse, in case you were wondering, is French for “curve bay” which is the shape of Tumby Bay beach where the cafe was originally opened. L’Anse French cafe & Croissanterie is open from 7.30 to 3pm at Shop 5 and 6/60 Liverpool St and on Instagram.
