When I did my research into hot chocolates in Brisbane worth trying, this one didn’t pop up. It was a surprise find. We were walking down the street and saw a sign that said “specialty coffee and cacao”. I can’t walk past a sign like that, so I followed it.
Coffee Head is a small shop with the perfect menu. The menu has four, equal sections. One is for coffee, something that they do very well (according to my coffee obsessed partner). One is for a range of teas that they offer, including a Jamaican Iced Tea which looked really good (hibiscus, mint, strawberry gum leaves and coconut sugar). The third section is for other drinks such as juices, matcha and chai. The most important part though is for their cacao-based drinks. All use Mörk Specialty Hot Chocolate as a base so you know you are in for something good. There is their original dark 70% and the dark milk with river salt 65%. You can also choose a Breakfast Hug, adding chair spices to a dark milk chocolate using oat and coconut milk. The Iced Coconut Cacao pairs your choice of Mörk options with coconut milk served on ice.
I ordered the Lucuma hot chocolate, made with Lucuma choc and Mork Specialty Chocolate. Lucuma is a fruit native to the Andean valleys of Peru that is full of antioxidants. According to them, it has a sweet maple flavour but I found it tasted a bit like guyabana and added a very subtle, fruity note which I really enjoyed.

Verdict: Coffee Head Co, 62 Manning st, South Brisbane @coffeeheadco
