Aiyaohno Cafe is tucked in the lobby of an office building. It is tiny and its rustic decor is very different than the dull modern lines of the building it is in. It is run by a husband and wife team who were inspire by the countryside cafes that they visited during their travels throughout Japan. They source many of their ingredients from Japan.

Here we enjoyed hot chocolates #3 and #4 out of the 21 hot chocolates we tried during the Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival. The first was a dark chocolate combined with amazake, a traditional Japanese fermented rice drink, paired with durian and served with a honey melon chocolate. This was one of our favourites from the festival by far. The second drink we enjoyed here was Capybara’s Yuzu Onsen: a dark chocolate mixed with yuzu and aromas of Hinoki, an aromatic wood used in traditional Japanese hot spring baths. This was served with a delicious yuzu citrus chocolate truffle. We paired all this with some of their delicious Japanese savoury dishes.
